My Brain Said “Let’s Do This!”… But Forgot What “This” Was
You know that moment when you get a sudden burst of motivation? That rare, magical spark where your brain goes: “Yes! Let’s do this!” 🚀
And then… two seconds later… “Wait. Do what?” 🤔
Welcome to the ADHD life.
The Epic Start That Never Happens
I’ll be walking through the house, totally pumped up:
-
“I’m going to clean the kitchen!”
-
“I’m going to write a blog post!”
-
“I’m finally folding that mountain of laundry!”
But then, somehow, I end up reorganizing the bookshelf, scrolling Pinterest for recipes I’ll never cook, or trying to remember where I left my coffee. Spoiler: it’s in the microwave. Again. ☕
The Detour Olympics
It’s not that we don’t want to finish things—we just get caught in the world’s longest chain reaction:
-
Grab laundry basket → notice socks on floor → go to put socks away → remember I never finished that Amazon order → oh look, an email → suddenly I’m watching a raccoon video on YouTube.
And just like that, my “let’s do this!” moment turns into “what was I even doing?”
The Silver Lining
Here’s the thing: even if the original task gets lost in the Bermuda Triangle of my brain, I usually end up doing something. Maybe the laundry didn’t get folded, but hey, now the bookshelf is color-coded and my dog has a brand-new Instagram account. (Don’t judge. He’s photogenic.)
The Takeaway
Living with ADHD means living with lots of these moments—frustrating, funny, and sometimes surprisingly productive. So if your brain forgets what “this” was, don’t beat yourself up. Chances are, you’re still creating, learning, and finding joy in the detours.
Because sometimes, “doing this” turns into doing that—and that’s okay. 💛
